Dr. Dawn Kaback Named the 2006 AGWSE Keith E. Anderson Award Recipient

The Keith E. Anderson Award is presented by the AGWSE Division of NGWA in recognition of services to the Association.
Dawn S. Kaback is the recipient of the Association of
Ground Water Scientists and Engineers (AGWSE) Division’s prestigious Keith E. Anderson Award to honor her long history of dedicated service to the National Ground Water Association (NGWA), including her leadership and contributions as an AGWSE Board member, her leadership of and participation on numerous committees, her contributions as an associate editor of Ground Water Monitoring & Remediation® and technical editor of Ground Water News & Views, and especially her contributions to the Interest Group Committees and program implementation particularly for the Horizontal Wells Interest Group.
Dr. Dawn Kaback is a Principal Geochemist at Geomatrix Consultants in Denver, Colorado. She has more than 28 years of experience in the environmental and energy fields, working for industry and the federal government. During the past 17 years, she has emphasized the application of innovative technologies for characterization and remediation of contaminated ground water and soils at numerous sites across the nation. Dr. Kaback earned her Ph.D. and M.S. in Geological Sciences from the University of Colorado, and a B.S. in Earth and Space Science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
Dr. Kaback’s technical focus has been environmental research, technology development and technical services, specializing in ground water and soil problems with solvents, petroleum hydrocarbons, and metals. She has participated in numerous collaborative projects where government, academia, and industry have worked together to develop new solutions to environmental challenges. Dr. Kaback also led a non-profit organization dedicated to collaborative decision-making to solve environmental problems related to restoration of watersheds in the West. Demonstrating her contribution to the development of innovative soil and ground water remediation technologies, she is a co-inventor on several patents and teaches workshops on horizontal environmental wells.
She has served on a National Academy of Sciences Committee on the U.S. Geological Survey’s Water Resources Research; as the director of the Ground Water Remediation Technologies Analysis Center; and on numerous expert panels. She is currently on the Advisory Board for the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Colorado. Dr. Kaback has served as an AGWSE Board member (1999-2002); as a long-time associate editor of Ground Water Monitoring & Remediation journal; as technical editor for AGWSE’s Ground Water News & Views newsletter (2004-2006); as chair and member of the Theis Conference Committee (2001-2006); chair and member of the Horizontal Wells Interest Group Committee (2000-2006); chair and member of the Interest Group Oversight Subcommittee (2001-2006); member of the AGWSE Nominating Committee (2005-2006); and moderator and/or presenter at numerous conferences.
The award presentation will take place at the AGWSE General Membership meeting during the 2006 NGWA Ground Water Expo, December 5 - 8, 2006 in Las Vegas.
