AMEC Geomatrix Invests in Emerging Contaminants Research
The Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation has awarded $4,800,000 to a team of researchers from the University of Waterloo, University of Guelph, Trent University, University of Toronto, and Wilfred Laurier University. These researchers in conjunction with industry partners will be conducting an extensive five-year research program into the analysis, control, and fate of a whole host of emerging contaminants (pharmaceuticals, personal care products, endocrine disrupting substances, brominated fire retardants, pathogens, antibiotic resistant organisms, and nano-materials). Geomatrix is one of the industry partners for this research team. According to Tony Daus, PG, president for Geomatrix, “Supporting a key research program of this nature is in keeping with Geomatrix’s long history of partnering with and supporting universities and researchers involved in cutting edge environmental research. Access to and co-development of an increased knowledge base for the Fate and Control of Emerging Contaminants is not only in line with our business interests, but it is also part of our responsibility as an informed corporate citizen."
Geomatrix has developed extensive experience in working with a wide range of wastewater treatment processes. Our team of process, environmental, and chemical engineers in concert with our extensive regulatory experience enable us to provide clients with highly customized solutions for their wastewater treatment challenges. Delighted to be selected as a member of the research team, Jeffrey Chambers, P.Eng., vice president and managing principal in the Waterloo office stated, “As an industry leader in wastewater treatment, Geomatrix is very interested in the Control of Emerging Contaminants Research Project. Our firm believes that emerging contaminants (personal care products, endocrine disrupting substances, nano-particles, and antibiotic resistant organisms) will drive the next wave of environmental controls as our society continues to move towards enlightened, safe, and sustainable practices.”
