AMEC Geomatrix have more than 10 years of experience in performing wetland delineations using federal and state methods. Wetland functions are the interactions of its structural components and the physical, chemical, and biological processes within the wetland and how they interact with other aspects of the surrounding landscape. Although wetland functions are numerous and occur at many different scales, they can be grouped into three categories: hydrology, water quality, and habitat. To create a successful mitigation site, an understanding of wetland functions must be supplemented by knowledge of how they are affected by human activities in the adjoining landscape.
After many successful delineations and mitigations, AMEC Geomatrix scientists have implemented long-term monitoring (sites developed by others or those developed by Geomatrix scientists) of wetlands including several large mitigation sites. The main objective of a monitoring program is to indicate the steps required to restore functions that are not meeting expectations and to assess the progress of restoring those functions. Our scientist have the ability to develop a monitoring program that uses methods that are scientifically-based, relatively easy to perform, provides direct feedback on performance of the functions, and is feasible within the time and cost constraints of the project.
