SBC Park Giants Stadium, San Francisco, CA
By strategic application of a risk-based site investigation and subsequent risk assessment, AMEC Geomatrix demonstrated that potential health risks associated with chemicals in soil and groundwater were insignificant at the property the San Francisco Giants selected for their new stadium. Earlier studies of the property estimated remediation costs of $2 million to $10 million. Based on the risk assessment, containment of soil beneath the future stadium was sufficient to reduce risks to acceptable levels. Affected groundwater was localized, warranting no further action. Schedule was a critical element to the success of the project; the Giants needed the investigation completed and remediation implemented within nine months. The site investigation, risk assessment, and recommendations for remediation were completed within five months. Regulatory approval of no further action was obtained within seven months of project initiation.
