Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering
Geotechnical Engineering
Dams, Levees and Soil Structure Interactions
Dr. Wang, a specialist in numerical analysis and computer modeling, has more than 30 years of experience in earthquake engineering, soil dynamics, and geotechnical engineering. His project experience emphasizes numerical analyses of engineering problems for critical structures such as dams, waterfront slopes, and nuclear power plants. He has developed considerable expertise in modeling and assessing seismic stability and deformation for various types of facilities.
Dr. Wang is an expert in conducting nonlinear site response studies under earthquake loading conditions and in performing numerical analysis and assessment of seismic soil-structure interaction. He has extensive experience in field and laboratory characterization of dynamic/cyclic-induced geotechnical instabilities such as liquefaction, large deformations, and strength degradation. He also is experienced in modeling the nonlinear behavior of engineering materials, including developing and applying the non-linear constitutive law for soils and conducting liquefaction response analyses of soils and stability analyses of dams, levees, and landfills.
He has served as a key technical person and project manager for numerous dam projects with clients such as Pacific Gas& Electrric Company, East Bay Municipal Utility District and U.S. the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Dr. Wang served as principal investigator and code developer for a number of Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (PEER) and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) site response and non-linear code research projects. He is a team member of recent New Orleans levee failure and retrofit design study organized by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Research and Development Center.
